Original TV anime broadcast since April 2017 “Tsuki ga Kirei”.
This anime is set in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. In episode 4, there are many scenes of Kyoto when they go on a school trip. In this article, we will introduce the sacred places in Kyoto from the TV anime “Tsuki ga Kirei”, divided into the first and second parts. Start of the second part!!
Check out the first part from here!
We introduced Kyoto Station, Kiyomizu Temple, Jishu Shrine, and Yasaka Shrine as some of the most famous landmarks in the tourist city of Kyoto in the first part. However, tourist attractions are not the only things that appear in this anime.
For example, Daimaru Kyoto store.
The place appears as the meeting spot for Kotaro and Akane, the main characters.
Kotaro and Akane make the decision to meet in front of Daimaru (described as “in front of Doimaru Department Store ” in the story). But unfortunately, Kotaro and Akane were unable to meet up in the end because the Daimaru Kyoto store, which is located in the setting, faces four streets.
Akane was waiting at the front entrance, on the Shijo-dori side.
Surprisingly, there is also a large entrance on the Nishikikoji Street side, which is just opposite this entrance, so Kotaro heads there first. Due to their teacher confiscating their cell phones, they are unable to contact each other, making it difficult for them to meet…
If I had promised to go in front of Daimaru, I would normally assume the entrance on the Shijo-dori side, but since they both face a busy street, this miscommunication is very real. In my opinion, the feeling of distance between the two, who are not yet in a relationship, but are aware of each other, is clearly conveyed.
The Takakura Street side also appears in the story.
This is the view you can see when you look east from the entrance on Nishikikoji Street side of Daimaru store.
“Nishiki Market” can be called the kitchen of Kyoto. This place, which has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, has also emerged.
Kotaro, who is unable to contact Akane because he lacks his cell phone, borrows a cell phone from Akane’s friend and tries to reach her. This scene is exactly where it is. The location is at the western end of Nishiki Market. The shops’ names are also very similar! Lol
And then there’s the scene where Kotaro and Akane finally meet up and talk alone. In this crucial scene, a conversation takes place that will alter the relationship between the two. Honnoji Temple is the location.
In the anime, it was raining.
Honnoji Temple is the place where Oda Nobunaga committed suicide after being attacked by Akechi Mitsuhide, and it was burnt down at that time, so it is now located in Teramachi Oike, which has changed its location from that time.
Finally, the two were able to meet. Akane discloses her emotions to Kotaro. The scene where he replies to his confession without using the word “I love you” is a famous scene that makes my heart tighten even when I think about it now… The place where we sheltered from the rain is also within the grounds of Honnoji Temple.
The arched stone bench that is unique is a landmark.
Many tourist attractions in Kyoto appear in the TV anime “Tsuki ga Kirei”. As Kotaro and Akane walk around town to meet up, many places they often pass through in their daily lives are also depicted. All of the spots introduced this time are located within the range that junior high school students can move freely on their school trips. If you actually explore it, you will get a real sense of feeling between the places the two of you have traveled, so I recommend it.
