Kura is an antique store located in the Teramachi Sanjo shopping street. The store owner’s son, Kiyotaka Iegashira, is nicknamed ”Holmes” because he has an eye for discerning the value of things and a keen intuition. Aoi Mashiro, a high school girl, meets Kiyotaka by chance and ends up working part-time at the storehouse. The two solve requests related to antiques brought into the store one after another. Based on the comic version of this novel that takes place in the streets of Kyoto, it was made into an anime in July 2018, and is currently being broadcast on TV.
We will introduce the scenery of Kyoto that appears in the anime in several parts, as if following the TV broadcast.

Episode 9.

A game tournament will be held hosted by the owner of the “Kura”, so Kiyotaka and Aoi head to Nishiki Market to prepare. Along the way, the two will visit the “Shinkyogoku Eight Shrines and Temples”, visiting seven temples and one shrine on Shinkyogoku Street. This scene also features many views of Kyoto. Shinkyogoku-dori is a shopping street that along north-south, connecting Sanjo-dori and Shijo-dori. It is a crowded place not only for Kyoto locals but also for tourists and students on school trips. It is said that the reason why there are so many temples and shrines on Shinkyogoku Street is because Toyotomi Hideyoshi gathered shrines and temples in this area. The two will visit eight shrines and temples along Shinkyogoku-dori, starting from the north.

▲This is the southern end of Shinkyogoku-dori. Episode 9 will feature a lot of scenery around here!

▲They will encounter Akihito at Seiganji Temple, which is said with entertainment purveyors! Then, the three of us will go around together.

▲Saikoji Temple is worshiped as the guardian Buddha for those born in the Year of the Tiger.

▲In the story, Kiyotaka and Aoi are stroking the “Nade Yakushi” of Takoyakushido, Eifukuji Temple.
It is said that if you stroke it, all diseases will be cured.

▲Somedonoin Temple and Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine. Both are located near the southern end of Shinkyogoku-dori.

▲Collecting goshuin stamps from the eighth temples and shrines of Shinkyogoku is also very popular. It also appeared in the story.

▲ Their final destination is the colorful ceiling of Nishiki Market.。
In preparation for the New Year, Nishiki Market is busier than usual at the end of the year.

After finishing the match with Ensei, Kiyotaka, Aoi, and Akihito head to Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama Ward. “Wokera Pilgrimage” is held at Yasaka Shrine on New Year’s Eve. It is an event where it is said that if you bring back a rope with a fire and twirl it round and round so that the fire does not go out, and cook Ozouni on New Year’s Day with that fire, you will be able to stay in good health for a year. It is a New Year’s tradition in Kyoto, and the story depicts it being crowded with many worshipers.

▲This is the West Tower Gate of Yasaka Shrine. You can feel how overwhelming the New Year’s Eve crowds are compared to the usual situation.。

▲It was also at Yasaka Shrine that the three of them talked about their New Year’s resolutions.

It is unique to Kyoto that there are so many shrines and temples in an area that can be explored on foot. Please take a look around! However, please be aware that there are some places within the shrine grounds where taking photos is prohibited. Well, there are only a few anime episodes left! Will Kiyotaka and Aoi’s relationship change significantly this year?
