Mystery novel “Kyoto Teramachi Sanjo no Holmes” written by Mai Mochizuki
Kura is an antique store located in the Teramachi Sanjo shopping street. The store owner’s son, Kiyotaka Iegashira, is nicknamed ”Holmes” because he has an eye for discerning the value of things and a keen intuition. Aoi Mashiro, a high school girl, meets Kiyotaka by chance and ends up working part-time at the storehouse. The two solve requests related to antiques brought into the store one after another. Based on the comic version of this novel that takes place in the streets of Kyoto, it was made into an anime in July 2018, and is currently being broadcast on TV. We have introduced the scenery of Kyoto that appears in the anime by following the TV broadcast, and this is the final article in this series!

Episode 11 was a story about Valentine’s Day.

Kiyotaka and Aoi are invited to a reading of Kurisu Aigasa, a writer. The two headed to Yoshida Sanso, located at the foot of Mt. Yoshida in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. Yoshida Sanso, which was built in the early Showa period as Higashi Fushimi Nomiya Villa incorporating high technology of Japanese architecture. In addition to the Japanese style, stained glass is also used effectively, creating a unique atmosphere that combines Japanese and Western styles. Yoshida Sanso has been certified as a registered tangible cultural property. The venue for the reading was Café Shinkokan, located on the grounds of Yoshida Sanso. At the reading session, Kiyotaka was asked to uncover the truth behind the “Kurisu Aigasa suicide attempt case”.

Episode 12.

The season is March. At Rikyu’s grandfather’s mansion in Takamine, an exam was held to determine the successor of the Saito family. Kiyotaka and Aoi also head to the mansion to help Rikyu’s father, Sakyo. Sakyo and Kiyotaka, as well as Rikyu and Aoi, teamed up to challenge their grandfather’s wish to “Make the successor someone who understands the Saito family, not someone who is suitable for the Saito family”. Ensei also participates in the exam, which leads to an eventful scene.

▲This is Imamiya Street, which appeared on the way to Rikyu’s grandfather’s house.

▲The Sanmon gates of Daitokuji Temple. It has been designated as an important cultural property.

At the end of the final episode, Kiyotaka and Aoi reach their second spring since they met. This 12 episode anime series depicts Kyoto in all seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Aoi said, “I want to cherish the moments when I look at beautiful things with Kiyotaka”, and the scenery of Kyoto depicted in the work was all about the beautiful scenery that represents Kyoto in each season. It was a work in which we, the viewers, could experience “Beautiful things” and “Beautiful scenery” together. The photo shooting took place in the summer to coincide with the broadcast. Please be sure to visit the same location during the season that appears in the work!
